Viscosupplementations 20. 10. 2018

Viscosupplementation is the application of hyaluronic acid to the joint space. The goal of the application is to restore the physiological conditions in the osteoarthritic joints. Intra-articular injections can be applied to any joints. Most often, hyaluronic acid is applied to the knee.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the joint fluid (synovial fluid), mainly because of its viscoelastic properties it acts as a buffer, lubricants and promotes the formation of its own acid by the cells in the joint. It significantly contributes to the improvement of cartilage cell metabolism and inhibits the breakdown of cartilage cells.
